Cartier’s Most Iconic Pieces are on Display in Melbourne
Few can resist admiring the blistering sparkle of a luxurious Cartier piece and now, thanks to a new exhibition in Melbourne, jewellery lovers will be able to get within a glimpse’s distance with some of the brand’s most significant pieces.
Into the Wild, a new installation at Federation Square’s The Atrium in Melbourne CBD is Cartier’s first cultural pop-up in Australia. It focuses on the significant contribution and enduring legacy of designer Jeanne Toussaint, the brand’s first female creative director.
During her reign in in the late 1940s, Toussaint’s creativity reimagined the Panthère - a symbolic, central theme of Cartier’s powerful and distinctive identity - into a collection of intricate panther-themed jewellery, watches and accessories.
The pop-up will also exhibit a selection of exquisite pieces bearing the hallmarks of Toussaint’s touch.
The highlight is the glittering Bestial Necklace, dotted with Onyx spots and 36.84 carats of brilliant cut diamonds. There’s also the Panther Two Heads Bracelet, a perfectly crafted sprinkle of diamonds and sapphires with two pear-shaped emeralds for eyes.
The pop-up also integrates tactile and experiential displays, with films and footage, crafting tools, design sketches and infographs, as well as a recreation of Toussaint’s design studio.
Entry to the exhibition, which runs from 10-6pm daily between March 6-17, 2020, is free but tickets must be booked in advance.
