Bialowieza Forest, Poland/Belarus
Covering 1418 square kilometres on the border of Belarus and Poland is the Bialowieza Forest, one of the last and biggest remaining parts of an ancient forest that once covered much of Europe. The magnificent green national park is home to at least 800 European bison and is UNESCO protected. Visitors can hike and cycle through the Bialowieza Forest National Park to see “oak patriarch”, a 600-year-old tree with a diameter of two metres – and growing.
