137 Pillars Suites & Residences – Hotel Review
Want to sightsee in your swimmers? It’s possible at this stylish hotel, home to two glorious swimming spots with striking views of the city. The infinity-edge pool located on level 27 is perfect for families, while lovebirds and unabashed social (media) butterflies should head for the rooftop pool (for the exclusive use of suite guests) that spans almost the entire length of the building. Part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the all-suite property features only 34 guestrooms – from 70sqm Sukhothai Suites to 127sqm Rattanakosin Suites. Every room features a king-sized bed, lavish bathroom, personal butler and mobile phone with unlimited local and international calls and 4G data.
The location
The hotel is about 45 minutes drive from Suvarnabhumi Airport, but that’s when traffic conditions are perfect, which is rare in Bangkok, so allow extra time. The BTS Skytrain is one of the most efficient ways to commute and the nearest stop (Phrom Phong) is about 15 minutes walk. But if you don’t want to walk, the hotel offers regular and complimentary shuttle service to the train station.
The rooms
There are no rooms in this hotel, just 34 luxurious suites, from 70-square-metre Sukhothai to sprawling 127-square-metre Rattankosin, with two spacious bedrooms. But even the smallest abodes here tick all the luxury boxes – deep soaking baths, marble ensuites, 24/7 private butlers and access to Baan Borneo Club, which serves complimentary breakfast all day and afternoon tea from 2pm to 5pm.
Food and drink
Located on the hotel’s ground floor, the Bangkok Trading Post Bistro & Deli is the place for freshly baked breads, pastries, pizzas and cakes, plus specialty coffees. For a special occasion, though, book a table at the Nimitr restaurant (pictured above), which serves progressive Asian cuisine in a cerulean setting. The hotel also has two drinking dens on site – the moody woody Jack Bain’s Bar and the open-air Marble Bar located next to one of the swimming pools.
For business travellers
While the hotel is more suited to leisure travellers looking for boutique, luxury experiences, it can create and host highly bespoke events for both small and large gatherings – from private dining to corporate shindigs.
For wellness travellers
There are two fabulous pools – one on level 26 and one on the top floor of the building – from where you can soak up panoramic Bangkok views, while the Nitra Spa on level 28 offers both traditional Thai and modern face and body treatments. The hotel also offers yoga and meditation classes in its fitness studio.
The fab factor
The highly attentive housekeeping staff. They will make a note of what sort of milk (skim, semi-skim, etc) you have with your in-room capsule coffee and place it in your minibar for the next morning, without even being asked to.
