“Bangkok is a city that never sleeps, so I had a list of bars to tick off.” – Jenny Yang, Platinum Frequent Flyer

“Using Qantas Points to fly Business to Bangkok was a great start to an end-of-year holiday for myself and my partner. Bangkok is a city that never sleeps, especially on New Year’s Eve. The view of the illuminated boats and fireworks over the Chao Phraya River from our Horizon Club River View Room at the Shangri-La Bangkok was so spectacular that we ordered champagne and stayed in. That was the only time, though – I had a list of bars to tick off! We sipped the signature River Ripples at the very glamorous Stella at Capella, saw live jazz at Mandarin Oriental’s Bamboo Bar and relaxed in a leafy courtyard at the Four SeasonsBKK Social Club.”

“We got a real taste for the city on a tuk-tuk food tour where we sampled salty-sweet soy sauce ice-cream.” – Caitlin Wright, Bronze Frequent Flyer

“My trip to Thailand started off with a fascinating family pilgrimage to Kanchanaburi (two hours’ drive north-west of Bangkok) where my grandfather was a prisoner of war. After my mother, sister and I arrived in Bangkok, we explored the city. During a hop-on, hop-off boat-ride along the Chao Phraya River we saw floating flower markets, visited the Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho and wandered among the canals. We got a real taste of the city via tuk-tuk with Bangkok Food Tours which included culinary discoveries such as salty-sweet soy sauce ice-cream, and cultural ones, too, like the temple where we floated flower-shaped candles in water to banish bad luck. Our day ended with ice-cold Singha beers at the rooftop Swing Bar. The view over the 18th-century Giant Swing, a religious structure made of teak, was unforgettable."

“We sipped Bangkok sours on a rooftop bar and watched the sun set over the Wat Arun temple.” – Grace Shen, Platinum Frequent Flyer

“My partner and I stayed at the Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park on our trip to Bangkok, which had an amazing buffet breakfast but we made sure to leave room to sample the local cuisine. We tried pomelo salad and tom yum soup at The Local Canteen and drank Bangkok sours – Thai whiskey, lime and pineapple – at Sala Rattanakosin’s Rooftop Bar as the sun set over the picturesque Wat Arun temple. A Thai friend recommended EmSphere’s food court where we tried khao soi, a coconut noodle soup bursting with flavour, at Napha and admired Thai artist Ping Hatta’s colourful mural. I loved wandering among piles of wax apples and mangosteen at Or Tor Kor Market and the maze of stalls at the famous Chatuchak Weekend Market next door. After hours of browsing, a Pain To Gain massage at Once Upon a Thai was a relaxing way to end the day.”
