Palms City Resort – Hotel Review
Get a real taste of the Top End at Palms City Resort, a Darwin property that feels a world away from its central city location. Rooms have a bungalow feel here, with wooden balconies overlooking verdant gardens of palms and banana plants, while the outdoor area celebrates the climate with garden-fringed pool. Read on for the full review.
Where is Palms City Resort?
It may not feel like it when you’re surrounded by heliconia and parlor palms but the hotel is seriously central – near the western edge of Darwin city, overlooking the Bicentennial Park and War Memorial. From the airport, it’s about a 15-minute drive.
What’s near Palms City Resort?
The family have likely already slipped wildlife park Crocosaurus Cove into the itinerary — luckily for you it’s only about a five-minutes walk away. Although easily traversable on foot, the city becomes even smaller by car: the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory is less than 10 minutes drive, while the popular Mindil Beach Sunset Market is half that (bring your appetite). The site for the iconic 20-year-old Deckchair Cinema is just 15 minutes walk. (And no, rainy weather doesn’t often stop the show, even during the wet season.)

The sense of place continues in rooms, which sport colourful, tropical-feel artwork and plantation shutters. Putting the gardens on show, all rooms have balcony access — with Standard and Superior types lined up for common use of one long, joint terrace. Private balconies are a lovely addition if you can secure them. In Superior Hotel Rooms, Garden Bungalows and above, rooms include kitchenettes and the very Darwin detail of an electric BBQ next to the outdoor dining setting, which is nothing short of genius.
Travel for work
Each room has a desk space and complimentary wi-fi for remote working.
Pool
A garden edge pool is nestled at the building’s heart, shaded by the hotel’s taller palms.
