If the family's in tow during your time in Queensland's capital never fear; you have options. Here are four of the best activities to keep kids busy while in Brisbane.

For outdoor types

Qagoma

South Bank Parklands is a 17-hectare multipurpose park right in the city centre. Take advantage of the sunshine by swimming in the lagoon at Streets Beach or run wild in the netted bridges and mouse wheel at the Riverside Green Playground. There are also nearby picnic tables.

For budding scientists

Queensland Museum’s SparkLab allows kids to watch live science experiments and make their own. Plan ahead as it’s ticketed entry with allocated timeslots.

For art lovers

QAGOMA Children’s Art Centre offers installations, projects and activities dedicated to kids. Below the Tide Line, on until 3 May, brings attention to ocean conservation issues through sculpture using “ghost” (abandoned) fishing nets, interactive animations and drawing activities.

For green thumbs

Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mount Coot-tha is where you’ll spot ferns, fungi, flowers, frogs, feathered friends and more, just eight kilometres out of the city. Head to the Exotic Rainforest and pick up the Hide ‘n’ Seek Children’s Trail map for a self-guided walk through subtropical flora, with activities for kids along the way.
