When chef Steve Earl couldn’t find the produce he wanted to serve, he bought a farm to grow the sort of food he was happy preparing. Now, while the sun sets over the ocean, you can feast on meats he’s smoked or cured and vegetables he’s grown himself. Something of a hidden gem (it’s above the shops in Apollo Bay), the menu here changes seasonally but you should expect to taste some of the area’s exemplary seafood – perhaps a mussel hotpot or paella to share. There are vegetarian options available and the desserts (pear tarte Tatin or summer pudding, for example) are worth lingering for. La Bimba is also open for breakfast and lunch.

Location

A quintessential Australian coastal town, Apollo Bay is burgeoning but thanks to the fish and chip shops, surf stores and impressive beach, it still maintains a relaxed vibe.
