Without doubt, this is Western Australia’s most important public art collection. Here you’ll find an excellent array of West Australian indigenous and non-indigenous art plus a holding of 20th-century Australian and British paintings. The gallery is within the Perth Cultural Centre, which is also home to the Western Australian Museum and PICA (Perth Institute of Contemporary Art). This is a walk-only locale where there are often activities spilling onto the paths, especially during the Perth Fringe Festival. There’s a café onsite but you’re only a short walk away from the cafés and restaurants of bustling William Street.
