Australia is renowned for its stunning beaches and Cottesloe, with its white sand, rolling waves and grassy embankment, is one of the most beautiful. Families should head to the patrolled southern end where there’s a calmer patch of water alongside the groyne. The northern end is more secluded and dog friendly. There’s a range of eating options here, too: enjoy casual Italian dining at Il Lido, take the kids for frozen yoghurt at Red Spoon, grab fish and chips at Amber Jack’s or kick back at the newly renovated Cottesloe Beach Hotel. Regardless, stay to watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean – and don’t mind the screeching of the birds at dusk.
