What to Do in Western Australia – According to Qantas Frequent Flyers

Mandurah Beach, Western Australia

Qantas Frequent Flyers share highlights from their recent trips to WA: from exploring stretches of ochre-and-azure coastline and learning about the region’s rich First Nations history and culture, to swimming at pristine city beaches and discovering an unexpected slice of British history in the heart of Perth’s CBD.

“I took my daughters to Perth Mint where we learned about finding gold, watched a live gold pour and saw nuggets and bullion. It was a surprise hit!” Charlotte Drew, Bronze Frequent Flyer

“I booked flights to Perth with typical visions of Cottesloe Beach and quokkas on Rottnest Island. Some of our most interesting experiences, though, were unplanned – London Court, a circa-1937 mock-Tudor shopping arcade in the Perth CBD, was an unexpected slice of English design in the heart of the city and ended up being the ideal place to meet old fellow expat Brit mates.

“I also took my daughters to Perth Mint where we learnt about finding gold, saw nuggets and bullion and watched a live gold pour. It was a surprise hit! And before jumping on the ferry to Rottnest we found what is possibly Australia’s most kid-friendly pub – Gage Roads Brew Co in Fremantle. It has everything from an excellent menu with lots of local seafood to an epic sandy playground and water views.”

“We stayed in cabins among the coconut trees in Lombadina, catching fish and mud crabs and learning from First Nations Elders.” – Raquel Kerdel, Gold Frequent Flyer

“In February I was privileged to visit Darrell Sibosado’s Bard-Bardi Jawi Country on the Dampier Peninsula, north of Broome. Darrell is the artistic and cultural collaborator for the 2025 mainstage Bangarra Dance Theatre production, Illume. I was there with other creatives whose cultural immersion inspired this extraordinary contemporary dance work.

“In Lombadina we stayed in cabins among the coconut trees, catching fish and mud crabs and learning the region’s culture and history from First Nations Elders during hosted tours and activities with Lombadina Aboriginal Corporation

“Everything was vibrant in the heat, from the aquamarine water to the orange dirt and luscious green trees. Being in a tropical climate, storms would roll in with a cool breeze and the scent of rain would fill the air. The orange dirt became a deep red colour and the leaves turned to dark green. It was vivid and spectacular.”
