Finca Serena Mallorca – Hotel Review
An idyll floating in dusty, rural Mallorcan countryside, Finca Serena Mallorca has an air of abundance. There are lavender fields that ripple in the evening breeze, trees of plump lemons that fragrance the air and groves of wrinkled olive trees that betray the land’s age. Settings such as these can’t be easily conjured in a rushed refurb or with design trickery and it’s this effortless environment that makes it such a priceless hotel experience. No matter where you settle on this bucolic farm property (part of Small Luxury Hotels) — be it the balcony adjoining the spa, a lounger next to the pool or a deckchair on your private terrace — it’s blissfully quiet. The noise of the island’s more lively corners, and daily life in general, begins to dissipate from the minute you arrive… and it stays that way until you (reluctantly) depart.
Where is Finca Serena Mallorca?
Just outside of Montuïri in the almost dead-centre of the island. It’s a turn-off from a two-land country road — keep your eyes peeled for the tall entry gates. The island’s airport, Palma de Mallorca, is a little less than half an hour away by car.
What’s near Finca Serena Mallorca?
Not much, and that’s part of its charm. Beyond the gates and winding driveway, it’s mostly countryside, a patchwork blanket of farmland. The hotel is not far from “civilisation” should the quiet prove too testing — there are several small towns less than 10 minutes away by car, the largest being the charming Montuïri, where the majority sandstone old town remains gloriously intact.
Room types
The rooms (of which there are just 25) are pleasingly simple and stylish, awash with crushed oatmeal linens and rattan lounging chairs under soaring ceilings and windows with glimpses to the gardens. Little luxuries include Egyptian cotton sheets, generous rain showers and pillow menus, as well as the requisite robes and slippers (and the poolside equivalents of woven bags and thongs). Suite Garden is a glorious upgrade should the budget allow, with a separate lounge room and private balcony with its own intimate panorama of the island’s varied landscape.
Restaurants and bars
Breakfast will be a highlight of your stay at Finca Serena Mallorca. Not only is the buffet more than equipped to satiate (inclusive of honeycomb from the property’s hives, local cheeses, sparkling wine and à la carte options) but the setting — at outdoor tables that straddle the stone lip that overlooks the property and its far-reaching vineyards, olive tree groves and lavender fields — is breathtaking.
Jacaranda, the on-site eatery that spills out onto the other side of the main building during dinner service, cooks according to a farm-to-table ethos, with seasonality at the heart of its creations. Proteins from the island, such as Mallorcan quail and Soller prawns, have previously featured on the menu, all plated with available herbs and vegetables grown on the premises.
Travel for work
Although there’s wi-fi throughout the property (and the lobby space is heaven to work from), we’ll make one suggestion: don’t work while you’re here. Suites and above have desks if you insist.
Spa, gym and pool
The hotel is anchored by the outdoor pool which has an elevated position over the surrounding countryside. Poolside waiters politely check in for refreshment, and plump and replace towels on the chairs while you lounge. It’s blissfully quiet, save for the bird song.
Further down a gravel road is the heart of the hotel’s wellness efforts where the spa, hydrotherapy pool, sauna and steam room are housed. The latter three are part of the same tranquil room, which has a balcony with sun loungers.
Morning yoga classes are also run in the greenhouse — sign up at the concierge desk.
Sustainability
Guests will often find produce sourced from the on-site gardens — including the honey set-up in the breakfast buffet — as well as solar panels and a water treatment plant to assist with orchard and vineyard irrigation.

What you need to know
The house wine is worth trying (for once) — it’s made from the very grapes cultivated down in the property’s private vineyard.
