The Laslett – Hotel Review

If you’ve been dreaming about relocating to west London’s Notting Hill since the namesake late-’90s film, book a stay at The Laslett. This charming boutique hotel, which occupies five of the neighbourhood’s characterful, chalk-white heritage-listed terraces, gives guests a taste of what residency in this delightful borough might be like, with homey yet stylish rooms and a buzzy onsite brunch spot. The hotel is thoughtfully decorated, with piles of vintage Penguin classics, local art and luxury bed linen. Huge original windows flush the rooms with natural light (if the sun is out, of course). Adding to the neighbourhood feel is The Henderson Bar & Kitchen, a chic space of velvet banquettes that offers a wine list with wild-fermented bottles. If you catch the indecisive London weather on a good day, breakfast cocktails on the terrace are a must.

Where is The Laslett?

Less than 50 metres from Notting Hill Gate Tube station, The Laslett is part of a string of Victorian terrace homes on Pembridge Gardens, in the north of Kensington. It’s about half an hour’s drive to Heathrow but the Tube can also get you there in around 25 minutes.

What’s near The Laslett?

Notting Hill, a lovely little locality of top-tier eateries, high-end boutiques and well-heeled residents, is a place to be explored on foot. Portobello Road, the street that houses the area’s popular namesake market, begins about 100 metres from your front door and Kensington Palace — at the edge of the sprawling Kensington Gardens — is just 15 minutes walk away.

Room types

There are five cosy room types at The Laslett, the indisputable frontrunner being the Master Bedroom Suite. Sprinkled with vintage treasures from a local second-hand furniture dealer, it has a dreamy, lived-in luxury, especially with a soaking tub on checkerboard tiles. You’ll also find air-conditioning in all room types, plus Nespresso machines for Double Bedrooms and above.

Restaurants and bars

Breakfast, brunch, lunch and supper are served at The Henderson Bar & Kitchen, which was named for Russ Henderson (a local personality widely pegged as one of the founders of the annual Notting Hill Carnival). Expect much more than the full English; there’s everything from syrup-drenched matcha waffles to acai bowls and truffle hummus on offer.

Travel for work

Wi-fi throughout the property is free and even the smallest room has a full-sized desk for remote working. The Library, a cosy space framed by design books and parquetry floors, is bookable for meetings and events, with seating for 10.

Wellness and spa

The Laslett’s Recharge Rooms apply a unique approach to wellness. The wellness curious will love the quirky range of offerings that go far beyond the requisite facials and massages, including futuristic-looking capsule saunas, IV-infusions and radio frequency anti-aging techniques.
