This big, bright spa on level five of the waterside Fairmont Pacific Rim feels like a mini-resort. The terrace has cushioned loungers, “meditation pod” seating with privacy hoods and a whirlpool. Circled by seabirds, and with city views, this is a lovely alfresco spot for a post-treatment wind-down. The spa uses Canadian product line B. Kamins, which features maple butter, honey, shea butter and soy in its body creams. When in the land of maple, why not succumb — so I offer up my jetlagged skin for a Coastal Mountain Body Wrap, which includes a massage with B. Kamins Maple Body Lotion. Vancouverites are an active lot, with hiking territory close at hand, and popular therapies are attuned to muscular fatigue — such as VanActive Feet and VanActive Body; the latter includes an exfoliation using geranium, pine and ylang ylang and a detox massage with organic juniper, fennel and lavender. It’s fair to say everyone smells faintly herby and maple-syrupy in the so-called co-ed lounges (ladies as well as gents in towelling gowns) or sitting out in the late-summer sun. B. Kamins products are sold at the boutique.
