The Best BBQ Joint in Dallas: Pecan Lodge
When it comes to food, Texas is famous for two things: barbecue and Tex-Mex. Pecan Lodge is the best barbecue joint in the city (and it was ranked number two in the state by Texas Monthly). Originally started as a lunch-only spot in the Farmer’s Market, Pecan Lodge moved to a space in Deep Ellum in May 2014 and opened a full-fledged restaurant. Be prepared for long lines, but the wait is well worth it to try the meticulously prepared brisket (as well as a wider range of barbecue offerings like pulled pork and a “Hot Mess” loaded baked potato). Top it off with a local beer and a bowl of banana pudding, and you’ve officially tasted Texas.
Location
Deep Ellum is an official Dallas Landmark District that’s steeped in tradition. It is most well-known for being a hotbed of music, starting with jazz and blues in the 1920s. While it fell into disrepair and crime by the end of the 20th century, it has since undergone a restoration and is once again known for its funky mix of music, food, and culture. It’s one of the Big D’s truly original neighborhoods.
