Looking to see and be seen on the Sunset Strip? There’s no better perch than at Mondrian Los Angeles. The hotel’s modern minimalist design presents an optimal backdrop for main-character energy, whether over crudo and tacos at Casa Madera or Margaritas at the Skybar pool.

Where is Mondrian Los Angeles?

Mondrian LA lobby

Situated on the iconic Sunset Strip, Mondrian Los Angeles can be found in the heart of West Hollywood, under an hour from Los Angeles International Airport by car.

What’s near Mondrian Los Angeles?

For those who come to LA for Hollywood history, the property is right in the thick of it. Only a five-minute walk away are celebrity hangouts, including The Tower Bar at the Sunset Tower Hotel and Chateau Marmont, and Mondrian’s own history is suitably starry – Keith Richards and Elvis Costello are among its famous fans. Shopping mecca Melrose Place, with boutiques such as The Row and Glossier, and its popular weekend farmers’ market are just 20 minutes walk away. You can reach Beverly Hills, home to Rodeo Drive, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, by car in 15 minutes. Drive in the other direction and you’ll get to the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Sunset Boulevard in about 10 minutes.

Room types

Mondrian LA penthouse

Ranging from Standard King all the way to the Penthouse Suite, the rooms and suites at Mondrian Los Angeles are modern and minimalist, with stark white lacquered finishes accented with cobalt-blue on bedheads, armchairs and couches. The graphic style is a homage to Dutch artist Piet Mondrian, after whom the hotel group is named, and sets the scene for an ultra-cool stay. Travellers looking for a place to crash after spending the day out and about will love the Standard King or Studio Suite, which have everything you need (smart TV, wireless charging stations, Malin+Goetz amenities) and nothing you don’t. Some suites offer sun-drenched balconies, perched right above the non-stop action of Los Angeles’ buzziest neighbourhood, making them a must for people-watching.

Restaurants and bars

Casa Madera

Casa Madera is the hotel’s do-it-all restaurant: a sunny breakfast spot in the morning and a show-stopping, high-end Mexican diner after dark. The location gives the eatery a faux-rooftop feel – it’s situated on the ground floor but the hotel’s hillside vantage point creates an incredible vista over the city’s skyline. The modern Mexican menu features dishes such as a smoky tajin guacamole, fusion fattoush (think tortilla crisps, corn and red radish), sea bass tacos and the signature dish, a hamachi crudo laced with chilli crisp and lime. Do not skip dessert: the just-baked butter cake with bourbon toffee and vanilla ice-cream is a thing of beauty. For a cocktail, head to the Mondrian’s Skybar, where the perfectly mixed drinks and beats flow until late.

Sustainability

Mondrian Los Angeles is committed to cutting out single-use plastics by 2025, and rooms feature refillable Malin+Goetz amenities. Linens are changed every three days (unless requested otherwise) and the hotel’s laundry is certified Green Seal, a global nonprofit dedicated to ecolabeling that certifies the highest standard of sustainability. Energy use has been cut by the installation of LED lighting throughout the hotel, restaurants and bars. For those arriving with a car, there are five EV chargers installed at the property, ensuring that you can recharge before another day exploring LA.

Accessibility

There are three types of accessible rooms at Mondrian Los Angeles, from Studio to Deluxe and Balcony, which all feature wheelchair-accessible doors, lowered locks, switches, control units and shelving, plus fully accessible bathrooms. For guests with hearing impairments, rooms can be made accessible courtesy of TTY telephones, closed-caption TVs and visual alarms and doorbell notifications. Accessible elevators are available from the lobby to the pool deck via the restaurant.

Travel for work

Some higher room categories, including the Deluxe Studio Suites, have workspaces to make use of the property’s fast and free wi-fi. But if you need a change of scenery, head downstairs to Gallery A and Gallery B, two meeting rooms that can be booked for more official business and feature flat panel monitors, smart boards and portable computers.

Spa, pool and gym

Mondrian LA Pool

On the first floor you’ll find the hotel’s gym, open 24 hours and equipped with everything from weights and yoga mats to Peloton bikes. Wellness experiences, such as massages and facials, can be booked through the hotel and are performed in the comfort of your room. But at Mondrian Los Angeles, it’s really all about the pool. If you’re there for a dip, the facility is open for swimming from 6am to 6pm. After hours, it serves as a stunning, open-air location for a night out at Skybar. It’s very popular but don’t worry – sun loungers are reserved for hotel guests so you’re guaranteed a prime position by the pool. If you’re staying at the Mondrian, you can bring up to four of your own guests but check the times during summer because children and those under 21 can’t enter the area after 1pm.
