Clift Hotel, San Francisco
The Clift has been around for 100 years but this old-style elegance feels extremely contemporary thanks to a Philippe Starck redesign. This is one very cool boutique luxury hotel. The furniture throughout is lavish and at times eccentric: the lobby has chairs by Ray and Charles Eames and a coffee table by Salvador Dali. Breakfast in the Velvet Room and eat or drink during the rest of the day at the breathtaking Redwood Room Bar. Ralph Lauren furnishings fit out the comfortable and handsome Living Room to one side of the lobby. The Clift has a great concierge desk, paid parking, a gym, a 24-hour business centre and fitness centre, meeting rooms and complimentary bikes
