The Pop Culture Inspiring Actress and Singer Angelina Thomson Right Now

Starring in Guys & Dolls in Sydney this month, actor and singer Angelina Thomson shares how she spends her time offstage.
My favourite movie is…
Wicked. Being a musical theatre nerd, I had high expectations of the film and, goodness me, did it deliver! I cried my eyeballs out. I sang along. The director, Jon M. Chu, did an incredible job.
The podcast I listen to is …
Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard and Monica Padman. I like how intimate and sometimes messy it gets. It’s easy to listen to but also inspiring. I particularly enjoy the episodes that feature actors, like Cynthia Erivo, who is an exceptional human and so honest and talented.
The book I love is…
Chita: A Memoir by Chita Rivera. She played the role of Anita in the original stage production of West Side Story [in 1957]. I played the same character in the Australian Opera production in 2021. Reading Chita’s memoir when I was in New York, where West Side Story originated, was so special. She actually got her start as a dancer in the 1950 stage production of Guys & Dolls and blazed a trail for other performers of Puerto Rican descent.
The show I’ve been bingeing…
My partner, Lachlan Dearing [who’s also in Guys & Dolls], and I are obsessed with Shrinking, a comedy drama series about psychotherapists. Harrison Ford and Jason Segel are the stars but Jessica Williams, who plays Gaby, is just phenomenally funny, beautiful and raw.
