The Danish goldsmith and jewellery designer reveals her favourite haunts in her home town. As told to Jessica Irvine.

“Copenhagen is a very joyful and welcoming city,” says Charlotte Lynggaard. “It’s vibrant and dynamic yet small enough to be relaxed.” The creative director of luxury jewellery brand Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen lives north of Denmark’s capital and is well placed to sing its praises. “People here are open-minded and the city offers a lot of inspiration with its architecture, museums, galleries and world-renowned Scandinavian cuisine.”

Best for coffee

Beau Marché

“I come to this furniture store, wine bar and café for a coffee or a quick bite. It’s decorated with beautiful vintage and antique pieces and it’s such a peaceful place to sit in the heart of Copenhagen.”

Ny Østergade 32, 1101 Copenhagen

Best for lunch

Café Atelier September

“It has that Parisian café feeling mixed with touches of Scandinavian style. The rye and avocado sandwich is great for lunch and there’s a good selection of teas and juices and a housemade lemonade. It’s simple and delicious!”

Charlotte Lynggaard's Tips to Copenhagen

Best designer shopping

Holly Golightly and Studio Oliver Gustav

Holly Golightly has some of my favourite international high-end brands, as well as talented up-and-coming designers to discover. It’s where I got my Levi’s dungarees that I treasure dearly and it’s next to impossible to step out of the accessories section empty-handed. I visit Studio Oliver Gustav for unique interior pieces. I’ve bought many items for the company and for home, such as custom-made leather trays and a gorgeous lamp.”

Best for vintage

Jérôme Vintage

“This is the place to go for vintage designer brands, such as Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Dior, plus ’60s and ’70s pieces and accessories.”

Best spa

Amazing Space

“At this spa that specialises in treatments with organic products and Nordic elements, I recommend A Day in Heaven; it lasts more than three hours and includes a facial, massage, manicure and pedicure.”

Hotel d’Angleterre, Hovedvagtsgade 3, 1103 Copenhagen

Best restaurants

Pluto and Kiin Kiin Bao Bao

Pluto reminds me of a New York bistro – it has the buzzing energy you find in a big city. The service is great and the staff are very flexible; they’ll do their utmost to find you a seat at the bar if you come without a reservation. Kiin Kiin Bao Bao is the younger sister of Kiin Kiin, Copenhagen’s first Asian restaurant to be awarded a Michelin star. The concept here is modern Asian tapas amid a cosy, cool atmosphere and fantastic interiors. I recommend ordering a variety of bao.”

Best for kids

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

“The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is a 30-minute train ride along the coast north of Copenhagen and I have many fond memories of trips here with my family. Everything from the building to the surroundings and the fantastic exhibitions is inspiring. There are wonderful artistic activities for children.”

Charlotte Lynggaard's Tips to Copenhagen

Avoid the tourists

The David Collection

“This gallery in the centre of Copenhagen was founded by Christian Ludvig David, a lawyer and art collector, who made his works available to the public with the opening of the museum in 1945. For me, this is a place of contemplation that oozes charm and nostalgia, away from the hectic city atmosphere.”
