Qantas has announced a new direct flight from Perth to Paris – just in time for the Olympics
Beginning next year, travellers will be able to board a Qantas 787 Dreamliner in Perth and disembark in Paris. The new route is almost 17 hours in the air – around three hours less than the current fastest Perth-to-Paris service. In addition to its already operational route from Perth to Rome, Qantas’ second direct flight between Australia and continental Europe will initially run four days a week, during the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games and the peak of the Northern Hemisphere summer, before reducing to three days a week from mid-August.
The introduction of the new Perth-to-Paris service – commencing 12 July 2024 – will add an additional 75,000 seats to and from Europe every year. “This route has been on our wish list for a while and we think customers will be as pleased as we are to see it go on sale,” said Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson. “Our direct flights to London and Rome have been hugely popular and Paris is the next most requested destination so we know the demand for this service will be strong as well.”
The recent addition of highly fuel-efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliners to the Qantas fleet has made previously impossible non-stop routes a reality and will see the Qantas Group’s international capacity increase to above 90 per cent of pre-COVID levels by the end of 2023 and rising to 100 per cent by the middle of 2024.
The Paris service will offer customers the option of connecting to more than 70 destinations across Europe, including Barcelona, Munich, Frankfurt and Athens, and 12 destinations within France through Qantas’ network of partners. A “circle fare” will also allow Qantas customers to fly into Paris and return to Australia from London or Rome on the same ticket, making it an ideal choice for passengers heading to Paris for the Olympic Games and also those who want to get a taste of Europe on their trip.
