Park Hyatt – Hotel Review

Flanked by corporate HQs, connected to the metropolis via skytrains and with direct access to the airport freeway, the Park Hyatt’s prime location is a compelling selling point. So, too, is the extraordinary architecture of this CBD tower, coiled into a figure eight for luck and outfitted with 222 rooms and suites over levels 12-33. Spacious rooms come in myriad configurations but share a minimalist elegance in sleek timbers and stone, and lavish use of glass capturing Bangkok from every angle. The tower’s top three floors are a hedonist’s playground of bars, restaurants and roof terrace. Elsewhere there’s an organic spa, 24-hour gym, sky gardens and an aerial saltwater pool for spectacular work-life balance. 

The location

The hotel’s commanding corner site on ritzy Ploen Chit nudges corporate HQs, prestige shopping, dining and nightlife. The ultra-luxe Central Embassy mall occupies the first six floors of the distinctive tower. Landmarks such as the Erawan Shrine and Jim Thompson House are within walking distance.

The rooms

Even entry-level rooms offer a minimum 48 square metres of living space – with king beds and full-frame aerial views – so there’s no such thing as a dud room here. There’s a Zen-like elegance to the 222 rooms, including 32 suites, with their minimalist design finished in sleek timbers and stone, and lavish use of glass to capture Bangkok from every angle (window-side chaises supplied for guest enjoyment). In-room technology is next-level efficient, with all comforts at the touch of a button.

Food and drink

Dining and drinking is split between the more sedate lobby-level offerings such as the indoor-outdoor wine bar, Sunday brunches (and daily breakfasts) poolside in the Embassy Room and pastry-laden afternoon teas served in the light-filled Living Room. The top three floors, 34-36, are party central with a balmy rooftop bar, a cocktail bar below and the Penthouse Bar & Grill on 34, a lively New York-style grill showcasing prime produce such as Rangers Valley tomahawk steaks from Australia and Hua Hin sturgeon caviar.

For business travellers

Room technology and desk settings are top-notch. There are 12 fully equipped event venues including The Apartment’s five residential spaces opening on to a 280sqm garden terrace on level nine. The business centre offers all-hours printing, photocopying and courier services.

For wellness travellers

The 11th-floor gym combines the latest Technogym equipment with city views. Next door, the spa (open 8am-10pm) is a calming stone labyrinth of 10 treatment rooms, sauna and steam, whirlpools and “experience showers”. The 40-metre saltwater infinity pool is seemingly cantilevered over the city and set in a tropical garden nine storeys up. Tiered levels above the pool feature daybeds and cabanas for decadent downtime.

The fab factor

Tucked away on level 35, the Whisky Room “speakeasy” stocks more than 150 single malts to sample among textured leathers and emerald carpets.
