Supernormal – Restaurant Review
The half-serves at Supernormal are Melbourne’s worst-kept secret. Not written on the menu, they’re offered by Andrew McConnell’s well-drilled army of waiters or even by the chefs themselves if you’re at a bar stool overlooking the frenetic kitchen action. This pan-Asian powerhouse that flits across Korean, Japanese and Chinese cuisines will cut most things down to single-diner proportions, whether it’s kingfish crudo jazzed up with wakame and mandarin dashi or beef tartare bright with fermented chilli. It pays to note that the famous New England lobster roll can’t be reduced in size but it doesn’t really matter – you’d want to order the other half, anyway.
